Ardabil's large market is made based on the architectural designs of the Safavid era and is situated in the center of the city of Ardabil. It consists of a number of halls, mosques, and public bathrooms. This market dates back to ancient times and was highly active in the 7th and 8th Centuries AH. In the following centuries, a part of the large market and halls were considered as the endowed properties of The Tomb of Sheikh Safi Ed-Din Ardabili and its revenues were spent to pay for the costs of this tomb. The current large market remains from the Safavid and Zandiyeh eras. The majority of this large market was destroyed in the past fifty years and some routes of this market, which ended at the market's center, have been wiped out with the passage of time. The large market includes the smaller markets of grocery shops, butchers, wood carvers, saddlers, knife sellers, hat makers, and a number of other halls.

The architectural design of the large market dates back to Safavid and Qajarid eras. The market is covered with simple arches and domes. The average width of arches stands at three meters and the diameter of pillars of arches is almost 80 centimeters. The light rays enter the market via the apertures which have been installed on the dome.

One of the major sections of the large market is the Qaysarieh market which is covered by a tall and simple dome. The building of Qaysarieh market is 13 meters in height. This building has twelve pillars and twelve arches, over which the dome has been placed.

The historical large market of Ardabil has been registered among Iran's historical monuments as of the year 1985 and as of then major efforts have been made to renovate and revive this historical market.
