    Miandasht Wildlife





    Introduction: Having an area of almost 84,500 ha, it is located in Northern Khorasan Province. It has been designated a Wildlife Refuge since 1975. The region has rolling mountains with vast salt lands. Its altitude ranges from 900 to 1,340m, and has a mean annual temperature of 14°C and mean annual precipitation of 150mm, resulting in a temperate, arid climate. Jajam Kalshour River flows through the region. It has both xerophyte (needing little water) and halophyl (adapted to saline conditions) species of plants.



    Plant species:
    Plant species include buckthorn (Rhamnus sp.), saxaul (Haloxylon sp.), tamarisk (Tamarisk sp.), camel’s thorn (Alhagi persarum), ephedra (Ephedra sp.), and astragal (Astragalus sp.).

    Wildlife species:
    Wildlife includes goitered gazelle (Gazella subgutturosa), wild cat (Felis silvestris), hyena (Hyaena hyaena), Indian crested porcupine (Hystrix indica), cape hare (Lepus capensis), common fox (Vulpes vulpes), wolf (Canis lupus), different rats (Rattus sp.), golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), see-see partridge (Ammoperdix griseogularis), chukar partridge (Alectoris chukar), stone curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus), MacQueen’s bustard (Chlamydotis macqueenii), hobby (Falco subbuteo), little owl (Athene noctua), desert horned viper (Cerastes gasperettii), cobra (Naja oxiana), Mediterranean spur-thighed tortoise (Testudo graeca), Persian wild ass or onager (Equus hemionus), caracal (Felis caracal) and sand grouse (Pterocles sp).

    2- Take a bus ticket to Esfarayen (Distance from Tehran to Esfarayen is 772 Km)
